The Lord Reigns

"My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken." (Psalm 62:1-2)

After the final counts are in, the last ballots are tallied, all legal avenues are exhausted, and a winner emerges...many rejoice while many turn away dejected. From both ends of the political spectrum, believers ask, “Why, God, did you allow my choice to be defeated?” And no matter your political leanings, as we turn to Scripture, there remains an undeniable truth: our God is still on His throne. He alone is worthy of our complete trust and confidence, and is the only sovereign God of the universe.

Consider these verses, and allow His peace to wash over you:

Psalm 93:1-2 – The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.

Psalm 97: 1 – The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice. Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

Psalm 99:1-3 – The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name – he is holy.

Psalm 117  Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.

Psalm 91:1-2 – He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the assurances from your Word that you truly are the all-knowing, all-powerful, sovereign Creator-God. You are my hope.
